Seniors Deserve Dignity: Honveer Randhawa Announces Surrey-Wide Public Washroom Plan

Conservative Surrey mayoral candidate says seniors and residents should not have to avoid public life because of lack of washrooms.

Surrey, B.C. (Khandoli) — Conservative Party of Surrey mayoral candidate Honveer Singh Randhawa has unveiled a major proposal aimed at improving public washroom access throughout Surrey, calling the issue one of dignity, compassion, accessibility, and public health.

Randhawa said the idea came directly from conversations with Surrey residents, especially seniors, who say the lack of accessible washrooms has impacted their daily lives.

“Seniors should not have to plan their day around finding a washroom,” Randhawa stated. “Many are avoiding walks, community events, and public outings because they worry there may not be a washroom nearby.”

Under the proposed Surrey Public Washroom Plan, the city would identify high-demand areas for new public washrooms on Surrey-owned properties. Proposed locations include transit exchanges, parks, sports fields, civic plazas, recreation areas, and senior-heavy neighbourhoods.

The plan would also introduce a “Surrey Community Washroom Partnership Program,” encouraging businesses, restaurants, gas stations, and commercial plazas to voluntarily provide washroom access to the public.

Participating businesses could receive recognition through city promotions, public maps, branding opportunities, and partnership incentives.

Randhawa said improving washroom access would help create cleaner streets, healthier public spaces, and more welcoming communities.

“Leadership starts by listening to people,” he said. “Residents want a city that is cleaner, more practical, compassionate, and human.”

The announcement is part of Randhawa’s broader campaign platform ahead of Surrey’s upcoming municipal election.
