Surrey, BC – NDP candidates Rachna Singh (Surrey-Newton) and Jagrup Brar (Surrey-Fleetwood) have announced their commitment to expanding Punjabi language and cultural education through collaborations with Simon Fraser University (SFU) and other institutions. In a joint statement, Rachna Singh emphasized the importance of local universities maintaining strong ties with the communities they serve, particularly with the new medical school opening in Surrey. Establishing a Punjabi Studies Department at SFU will ensure students can learn the language while actively contributing to preserving Punjabi culture and heritage. Jagrup Brar added that this is a crucial opportunity to pass on language, culture, and knowledge to the younger generation. If re-elected, the NDP will provide necessary tools for students to learn and grow in Punjabi language and culture.

ਸਰੀ, ਬੀਸੀ – ਐਨਡੀਪੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਿੰਘ (ਸਰੀ-ਨਿਊਟਨ) ਅਤੇ ਜਗਰੂਪ ਬਰਾੜ (ਸਰੀ-ਫਲੀਟਵੁੱਡ) ਨੇ ਸਾਈਮਨ ਫਰੇਜ਼ਰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ (ਐਸ ਐਫ ਯੂ) ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਬੱਧਤਾ ਦੀ ਘੋਸ਼ਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਕ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਵਿੱਚ, ਰਚਨਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਖ਼ਾਸਕਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਸਕੂਲ ਖੁਲਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਏਗੀ। ਜਗਰੂਪ ਬਰਾੜ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਤੱਕ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬੇਮਿਸਾਲ ਮੌਕਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਐਨ ਡੀ ਪੀ ਮੁੜ ਸੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਲਈ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਔਜ਼ਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਐਨ ਡੀ ਪੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ فروغ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧ ਹੈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਸਬਾਬ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨਗੇ।
