In a dramatic and closely contested election, British Columbia remains without a clear majority government. The BC NDP won 46 seats, narrowly ahead of the BC Conservatives with 45 seats. The Green Party secured 2 seats, leaving the NDP potentially able to form a minority government with Green Party support.
As results remain tight in two constituencies, with margins of less than 100 votes, a recount is expected. The final election results will be announced on October 26, leaving British Columbians in suspense over the future of their provincial government.
NDP Leader David Eby addressed his supporters, acknowledging the intensity of the campaign and the need to wait for final results: “This was a tough battle, and every vote counted.”
The BC Conservatives, led by John Rustad, celebrated their historic gains, with Rustad stating, “We are very close to forming the government.”
Among key victories for the Conservatives was Mandeep Dhaliwal’s win over Education Minister Rachna Singh in Surrey North. Other notable Conservative winners include Harman Bhangu, Jodie Toor, Honveer Randhawa. and Steve Cooner- RichMond Queenborough
Despite setbacks in Surrey, the NDP had successes with candidates like Jagroop Singh Brar in Surrey-Fleetwood, Ravi Kahlon in Delta North, and Jessi Sunner, who retained Surrey-Newton. Raj Chouhan and other Punjabi-origin candidates like Nikki Sharma, Sunita Dhir, Ravi Parmar, and Harwinder Sandhu also celebrated victories.
In Surrey, former cabinet ministers like Gary Begg and Rachna Singh faced surprising defeats. The Conservatives capitalized on these losses, gaining crucial seats, including in Surrey Panorama with Brian Tapper and Surrey South with Brent Chapman.
The final results and the next steps for government formation are eagerly awaited by BC residents.

ਐਨਡੀਪੀ ਆਗੂ ਡੇਵਿਡ ਈਬੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਕਠਨ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹਰ ਵੋਟ ਮਾਇਨੇ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਉਡੀਕ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।”
ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ, ਕੰਸਰਵੇਟਿਵ ਆਗੂ ਜੌਨ ਰਸਟੈਡ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਹਨ। ਅਸੀਂ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹਾਂ।”
ਕੰਸਰਵੇਟਿਵ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਮਨਦੀਪ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਸਰੀ ਨਾਰਥ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ ਕੇ ਬੜਾ ਝਟਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਹੋਰ ਕੰਸਰਵੇਟਿਵ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰਮਨ ਭੰਗੂ, ਜੋਡੀ ਤੂਰ, ਸਵੀਟ ਕੂਨਰ-ਰਿਚਮੰਡ ਕੁਵੀਨਜ਼ਬਰੋ ਤੋਂ ਜੇਤੂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਣਵੀਰ ਰੰਧਾਵਾ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ।

ਸਰੀ ਗਿਲਫੋਰਡ, ਸਰੀ ਨਾਰਥ ਤੇ ਸਰੀ ਪੈਨੋਰਾਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਐਨਡੀਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਮੀਦ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਮਿਲੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਿਆ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਕੁਝ ਸੀਟਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਐਨਡੀਪੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਹਸਤੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।
